Passion

I’m here to talk about my passion in life and when I think of “passion” I come up with none. When you search passion in Google or Yahoo it would say, “Something that you are strongly interested in and enjoy.”  The definition of passion is a powerful emotion. These emotions can include love, joy, hatred or anger. Passion can drive people to do the best things in life, or it can drive people to do the most terrible things possible in life. Passion is having a purpose in life. The feeling of passion does not have to only have to relate to another human being; it can be viewed as a feeling of enthusiasm and excitement toward an activity, hobby, or item as well. Passion is an important factor in every single soul on earth. It is a driving force behind the work of an individual does to achieve the goals and ambition in his life. Passion is what gives a person solace while doing what they feel so strongly about. A person becomes infatuated with certain things, but if there’s no passion in it, the act starts to feel too monotonous. The person will eventually get fed up of it and consider all the time spent on it as wasted. However, if the very same thing is done with passion, it embraces one for life.

When this task was given to us I wondered what interests me or what do I really enjoy doing and I ended up playing the piano. I’m not good at it but whenever I feel sad or having a really bad day I always play the piano. I’m not good at it like some famous pianist but it calms me down and blocks all the negativity in my mind. I play it even when I’m happy or bored, whether I am in distraught or am pondering over a problem, I can turn to the piano to pound on the keys, or float freely above them. The tune that entices my ears helps me make it through the day because of its comforting presence. I believe that playing is not just an art; it’s a means of expressing one’s emotions. Thus my passion for playing the piano, coupled with my love for music comes from deep within my soul, mind and heart. The moment I put all my energy to play a tune is the only time when I feel my heart is completely released from struggle. Nothing else can make me so honest, as I can calmly and objectively see what is happening in my mind just by playing a simple song. It is for these feelings; those that always cheer me up and give me energy to live even in tough times that I love playing my piano. Ever since I was little, I can see myself on stage with an audience and just playing. I put my fingers on the keys and feel their cold and smooth touch like marble, pressing the white keys and the black keys while everyone is silent. Until now whenever I think of my life, this thought always comes up to my mind. I guess it really is my passion. It’s something I love to do and it makes me happy.

I started playing the piano because of my lolo (grandfather). His tastes in classical music and the calm, quiet way he immersed himself in it still influences my enjoyment and interaction with it to this day. Everything I know and love about classical music I learned directly from my grandfather. When I was young, he would always invite me to play the piano but the kid in me would always crave for outdoor fun. As a result, I would usually hide from him at first, but eventually end up by his side, watching him play. When he died I regret hiding from him or not listening to him that’s why a started to learn how to play the piano. It’s tough at first but every note I play, every keys I press, it feels like he’s beside me and listening to me.

Having a passion can help in a number of ways. In my case, it not only gives me something to do, but something to strive to be better at as well as relieve stress, and get away from daily life. The possibilities of what you can learn or create are practically endless and show no signs of dwindling . Of course, it’s not always so simple finding something one could love to such an intense amount. You’re the author of your life. Don’t settle for the bare minimum just because it’s working out right now. You will never know what you’re truly capable of unless you push yourself. But even when you pursue your passion, you will find yourself tripped up by failures and other obstacles. You can’t let that get to you. It happens to everyone on the path of following their passion. Abraham Lincoln had a strong passion for building a great country. You think he let a few failures stop him from that? Don’t let obstacles get you down.
